The chillers and the main electrical panels were to be replaced and the overall installation upgraded. Prodesign advised the client on the best available technology based on whole life-cycle costs, after extensive dynamic simulations and modelling.
The major challenge was to retrofit the new installations, which were bigger, in very confined spaces and yet ensure they were operating at high efficiency. Consideration was also given in the design process to the health and safety of the construction workers, Prodesign working with the client to find alternative solutions to several constraints in the existing installations. Further challenges included the installation of new 1,250 kVA generators and the exhaust.
The project is a regional showcase for energy-efficient solutions.
