MINDSPACE offers its tenants ten storeys of technologically advanced workspace coupled with a state-of- the-art data centre. The 500-square-metre Bhumishq data centre is the first advanced Tier IV-standard centre certified in Mauritius and the third in Africa. The prestigious certification was awarded by The Uptime Institute in the USA, that formalised its Tier I-IV classification for data centre facilities.

The Prodesign team provided design and supervision services for all Mechanical and Electrical systems, including: data-centre IT requirements, precision cooling, fire security systems and CCTV, access control and communication systems. The Rs260 million project was begun in 2006 and completed in 2010. Set up in 1993, the Uptime Institute is a consortium that engages in consulting and IT services for the data-centre industry and professionals.

It is best known for its widely adopted data-centre tier certifications. The Uptime Institute’s tiered classification system has become the industry standard approach to site infrastructure functionality and addresses common benchmarking standards. The methodology offers companies a way to measure return on investment and performance.

The tier certification refers only to the physical topology of a data centre’s infrastructure that directly affects the computer room operation. The certifications are awarded in four levels:

Tier IV – Fault-tolerant site infrastructure

Tier III – Concurrently maintainable site infrastructure

Tier II – Redundant capacity components site infrastructure (redundant)

Tier I – Basic site infrastructure (non-redundant)
