He has a proven track record with multiple LEED Certified projects and continues to spearhead several initiatives set to achieve LEED Certification in the coming months. His holistic approach integrates MEP consultancy, sustainability strategies, and BIM management, making him a respected advisor in the industry.

Hi Niraj, can you tell us about your background and areas of expertise?

I’m the Director and Sustainability Expert at Prodesign, where I’ve been deeply involved in sustainable design and engineering for over two decades. My expertise spans across MEP consultancy, sustainability management, carbon reduction and BIM implementation. As a LEED AP and EDGE Expert as well as Auditor, I focus on integrating sustainable principles into every project, aiming to set new benchmarks for eco-friendly building design and construction.

What excites you the most about your current role?

What excites me the most is the opportunity to blend my technical expertise with my passion for sustainability. At Prodesign, I get to work on transformative projects that not only meet our clients' needs but also contribute positively to the environment. Whether it’s through pioneering sustainable building designs or guiding partners and clients towards green certifications, I’m driven by the impact we can make on future generations.

What major trends do you foresee in the industry over the next year?

I anticipate a significant acceleration in the adoption of sustainable building practices, driven by increasing regulatory demands and client expectations. The integration of digital technologies, such as BIM and advanced energy modeling, will also continue to shape the industry. Additionally, there will be a stronger focus on resilience and adaptability in design, particularly as climate change becomes a more pressing concern.

You've been recognized for your contributions to sustainable engineering. What’s the secret to your success?

I believe the key to my success has been a combination of passion, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong learning. I’ve always been driven by a desire to push the boundaries of what’s possible in engineering and sustainability. Surrounding myself with a talented team and fostering a collaborative environment has also been crucial. It’s all about continuously striving to innovate and inspire others in the field.

Is there anyone you credit for helping you along your professional journey?

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to have Mr Vikram Bhujun as a mentor who guided and supported me. From my early days as an Engineer to my current role, I’ve had colleagues and leaders who believed in my vision and provided invaluable advice. I’m especially grateful to my wife whose encouragement has always been my foundation.

How do you stay motivated and keep your team inspired?

Stay motivated by focusing on the bigger picture—the positive impact our work has on the environment and society. For my team, I emphasize the importance of collaboration, continuous improvement, and celebrating our successes, no matter how small. By maintaining open communication and fostering a culture of innovation, I strive to keep everyone aligned and motivated toward our common goals.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

In the next five years, I envision expanding Prodesign’s influence in sustainable engineering and carbon reduction, particularly in the emerging markets of green building certifications. I aim to mentor the next generation of sustainability experts and continue to push for innovation in our industry. My goal is to ensure that Prodesign remains at the forefront of sustainable development, setting new standards for excellence.

What advice would you give to aspiring leaders in the field of sustainability?

My advice is to stay curious and never stop learning. Sustainability is an evolving field, and staying ahead requires a commitment to understanding new technologies, regulations, and methodologies. Be bold in your ideas, collaborate with others, and don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. Most importantly, remember that your work has the potential to make a real difference—embrace that responsibility and let it drive you forward.
