SALT of Palmar - A Record Time Renovation
Hotels
Located on the East Coast of Mauritius, not far from Belle Mare, SALT of Palmar, formerly Le Palmeraie Hotel, is the latest addition to Lux Island Resorts’ portfolio.

After completing a condition survey of all MEP engineering services, LUX Island Resorts appointed Prodesign to provide MEP consultancy expertise for works designed to give a fresh look to the hotel’s 59 bedrooms, which look out over the sea, the garden or the 25-metre lap pool. We embarked on a large-scale renovation programme in March 2018.

Our MEP consultants upgraded the services of the hotel in various ways mainly to considerably reduce energy and water consumption. Rooms were redesigned in an optimal way by re-using existing installations and equipment as much as possible to reduce construction costs. Our multidisciplinary team resolved several problems that the hotel had been facing over the years, particularly with the hot water system.

Our M&E engineers also enhanced electrical infrastructure in the spa and public areas with general and emergency lighting, along with the installation of air conditioning where necessary, while minimising the energy consumed by these systems. These areas included the pool, beach bar, roof bar, bakery, kitchen, shop, library, waiting lounge and the restaurants. Prodesign’s sustainability engineering services were also required to revisit the drainage and lighting systems in the 59 rooms and in the parking area.

Major challenge

One of the major challenges of the SALT of Palmar refurbishment project was a very tight deadline. In the event, Prodesign managed to develop the design, supervise the project, inspect the defective systems and hand over in a record time of only seven months, thanks to effective collaboration between our project managers and M&E engineers.

Prodesign has been delighted to be associated with Lux Island Resorts’ first SALT property and we are proud of what we were able to achieve in such a short span of time.
